Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 cannabinoids produced naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD was first isolated from the cannabis plant in 1940 by Roger Adams, a U.S. chemist. In the 60’s, after further research, it was concluded that not only did CBD have many health benefits, it had no psychoactive effects. Despite the many benefits of the cannabis plant, Marijuana, Hemp and CBD remained illegal for possession or use. The War on Drugs in 1971 further stigmatized any form of the cannabis plant, including Marijuana, which became labeled as a Schedule 1 controlled substance. This class is the most restrictive and punishable by law.
The future of CBD and cannabis has taken a positive turn, however. In 2018, the Federal Farm Bill was signed. This bill allows farmers to grow hemp and sell hemp products as long as its THC content is below .3%. This federal law varies from state to state. In June of 2019, Texas passed HB 1325 that aligned with the Farm Bill and legalized the growing, selling and consuming of hemp.
Although Marijuana and Hemp both come from a strain of Cannabis Sativa, they contain different concentrations of cannabinoids. The most significant difference is the levels of THC, a psychoactive property, they both have. Marijuana has high amounts of THC, while Hemp has very little. For centuries, Hemp has been harvested for industrial use, while Marijuana has been known to be used for its psychoactive effects.
Here at Paloma Verde, our hemp oil extract is 100% Phytocannabinoid-Rich (PCR). This means that along with CBD, there are other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes and flavanoids. Research has shown that all the cannabinoids together have greater benefits. Our unique and proprietary formula is removed of all unwanted compounds, waxes and chlorophyll and only uses the leaves and flowers of the plant. That way, only the best quality aspects of the hemp plant are used, enhancing the potency and CBD content in every batch.
There are different types of CBD that are important to know when shopping for a product that is right for you. A few on the market now are:
Products labeled “Full Spectrum” is the least processed form of CBD and it contains THC, so it can present a risk for users who would be subject to drug testing. These products should also be avoided by anyone who is not comfortable using THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana.
Broad-Spectrum CBD oil contains the most beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes, however there is one more filtration process that removes the psychoactive compound, THC. Our third-party lab testing confirms that no THC is detected in our Broad Spectrum products.
All of Paloma Verde products are third-party lab tested for accuracy and safety. The batch number is on the bottom of each product bottle.
